Dog Behavoir Problems
12/02/2009 11:48If you are having dog behavior problems and are expecting a three-step plan that can solve them during commercials, you are in for a shock. Your dog may be aggressive, loud, or destructive in the home. You need to break down what the issue is. Once you do that, you can understand your dog and then take the proper steps so you can solve the problems. In addition, you will be able to learn how to avoid new problems in the future. Most importantly, you will be able to establish a stronger relationship with your dog, showing him that you care about his needs and attitudes.
Dog behavior problems may be hard to overcome, but establishing the why is important. Are they aggressive to other dogs? If so, then you need to find out why. Generally, dogs tend to be aggressive due to sex-hormone issues, but a dog that has no interaction with other dogs may also be aggressive to other dogs. Paying attention to your dog, watching his eyes and seeing if he is actually having eye contact with another dog may be a sign of trouble. He may feel that the other dog is a threat to you, which could also be a problem.
Other dog behavior problems may come from improper training. Most dogs love to listen to their owners, but sometimes while trying to respect your dog you give it signs that it is the pack leader. The pack leader goes through doors first, is fed first, and if that is the relationship your dog has with you, it may think it is the pack leader in your family. For example, prepare your dog’s meal but don’t feed him until you are fed first. This shows leadership to your pet, something you need to establish to avoid future problems.
Dog behavior problems can be cut off with proper training. Making sure they understand basic commands is important, but enforcing those commands is just as important. Telling your dog to come and knowing he will is good, but you have to know he will do that in all different situations, from alone in the home to at the park with other dogs. Daniel Stevens’ book, Secrets to Dog Training, can open up your eyes to new techniques, insights, and really help you establish a relationship with your dog that can help you overcome the problems with your dog’s behavior.
